Zoot & Newt Friday 5:30-7:30 pm, June 21
The Zoot and Newt Band is a four piece group, consisting of the long time Cedar Valley duo Zoot and Newt, along with Joel Hundley on drums/vocals and Matt Hoffman on bass/vocals.
Jay and Jen started as a duo in 2013; within months they were playing The Hub; since then they’ve performed at such events as CHAF, My Waterloo Days, Sturgis Falls Days, and the Summer of Love Festival.
The Band came into existence in late 2017, when Joel joined the duo, bringing his longtime bandmate Matt to form a four piece 70s rock band.
Jay began playing in clubs when he was 17; he moved to Australia and toured with EMI recording act Moonlight, opening for international acts including Deep Purple, Bo Diddley, and Tina Turner, playing live concerts on national tv, and hitting the top ten with their single Moonlight Lady.
Jen also started playing in local bands when she was 17; she went on to compete in the Iowa Blues Finals. She opened for Vixen and Head East, and has done syndicated jingle work, including the Iowa Lottery.
Joel also started young, playing his first local gig at the tender age of 15. He went on to work with Chicago’s “Sugar Lips” Brown and “Junior” Shirley for 5 years, later touring with the band Kansas City Southern.
Matt is well known through the Cedar Valley; he has performed in Hearsay, the Dynaflows (with Joel), and Major Healey. Over the years, he has opened for such well known acts as REO Speedwagon, Starship, Bad Company, and 38 Special.
